ACHIEVERS GYMNASTS CONTINUE HOT STREAK IN COMPETITION

Gymnasts achieve 45 Top 5 Placements and 71 Top 10 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s GymnasticsCenter competed in the Texas Tough competition held at the ArlingtonConvention Center in Arlington, Texas, on February 20-21, 2016.  This competition was attended by over 700 top gymnasts from the state of Texas, with many Achievers Gymnasts placing at or near the top of the competition.

1st place performances were achieved at Level 10 by Megan Dennis from Lewisville, at Level 8 by Haley O’Connor from Flower Mound, at Level 6 by Caitlin Prater from Denton.  Additionally, Silver medals were earned at Level 10 by Dennis, Level 9 by Claire Willenborg from Highland Village, Level 8 by O’Connor, Nadia Hernandez from Keller, and Carsyn Phillips from Denton, Level 7 by Gabriella Eyeington from Keller and Peyton Thompson from Keller, and at Level 6 by Prater, Madison Justice from Denton, and Kylie Brown from Lantana.  Dennis earned the Gold on Bars, Beam and All Around and the Silver on Floor in Level 10 Sr. B age division.  O’Connor took 1st on Vault and 2nd on Floor and All Around in Level 8 Sr. B. age division.  Prater took 1st on Bars and Beam and 2nd in the All Around in Level 6 Sr. B age division. 

 Also, Silver medals were earned by Willenborg on Vault in Level 9 Jr. A Age division, Hernandez on Vault in Level 8 Sr. B age division, Phillips on Vault in Sr. A age division, Eyeington on Bars in Level 7 Sr. B age division, Thompson on Beam in Level 7 Sr. B age division, Justice on Vault in Level 6 Sr. B age division and Brown on Bars in Level 6 sr. B age division.  Additionally, the Level 8 Team placed 2nd in the team competition.

The next competition for the Achievers Gymnastics Level 6 Team is the Texas Level 6 State Championships to be held in Allen, Texas on March 4 – 6, 2016.  The remainder of the Achievers Gymnastics Team will be travelling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 4-6, 2016, to compete in the Purple and Gold Cup.

ACHIEVERS GYMNASTS COMPETE AT PRESTIGIOUS WOGA CLASSIC

Gymnasts achieve 26 Top 5 Placements and 41 Top 10 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in the WOGA (World Olympic Gymnastics Academy) Classic held at the Frisco Convention Center and Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas, on February 13-14, 2016.  This competition was attended by over 1800 top gymnasts from over 20 different states and several countries including Canada, Mexico, Norway, Romina, Russia and others, with many Achievers gymnasts placing at or near the top of the competition.

1st place gold medal performances were achieved at Level 8 by Carsyn Phillips from Denton, Haley O’Connor from Flower Mound, at Level 6 by Amanda Wisker from Denton and Madison Justice from Denton.  Additionally, silver medals were earned at Level 8 by Phillips, and at Level 6 by Justice, Caitlin Prater from Denton, Ava Askew from Denton, and Sydney Kudlac from Pilot Point.  Phillips earned the gold on beam and all around and the silver on floor in Level 8 Sr. A age division.  O’Connor placed 1st on vault in Level 8 Sr. A. age division.  Wisker placed 1st on beam in Level 6 Jr. B age division.  Justice took home the gold medal on vault and the silver on bars in Level 6 Sr. A age division.   

Also, silver medals were earned by Prater on beam in Level 6 Sr. A age division, Askew on bars in Level 6 Jr. B division, and Kudlac on vault in Level 6 Sr. A age division.  Additionally, the level 8 team placed 3rd and the level 6 team placed 5th in the team competition.

The next competition for the Achievers Gymnastics Team is the Texas Tough competition to be held in Arlington, Texas at the Arlington Convention Center on February 19 – 21, 2016.

ACHIEVERS GYMNASTICS USAG GIRLS TEAM CONTINUE HOT STREAK

Gymnasts achieve 32 Top 5 Placements and 55 Top 10 Placements 

FEB 4th - DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in the Chow’s Challenge Invitational held at the Galveston Convention Center in Galveston, Texas, on January 29-31, 2016.  This competition was attended by over 1200 top gymnasts from over 20 states with many Achievers gymnasts placing at or near the top of the competition.  Chow, Olympic coach of Gold Medalists Shawn Johnson and Gaby Douglas, told the audience that this competition felt like a “National” competition because there were so many top gymnasts competing.

1st place gold medal performances were achieved at Level 8 by Haley O’Connor from Flower Mound, at Level 6 by Amanda Wisker from Denton, Ava Askew from Denton, and Kylie Brown from Lantana.  Additionally, silver medals were earned at Level 10 by Megan Dennis from Lewisville, Level 8 by Nadia Hernandez from Keller, and O’Connor, at Level 7 by Peyton Thompson from Keller, and at Level 6 by Wisker.  O’Connor earned the Gold on Vault and the Silver All Around in Level 8 Jr. C age division. 

Amanda Wisker won 1st in the All Around and 2nd on Vault and Bars in the Level 6 Sr. A age division. 

Askew took home the gold medal on uneven bars in Level 6 Sr. A age division.  Brown won uneven bars in Level 6 Sr. C age division.  Also, Dennis earned the silver medal on beam in Level 10 Senior A age division.  Hernandez took 2nd on beam in Level 8 Jr. C age division.  Thompson earned her silver medal on the balance beam in Level 7 Sr. A age division.  Additionally, the Level 8 team placed 3rd and the Level 6 team placed 5th in the team competition.

The next competition for the Achievers Girls Gymnastics Team is the WOGA Classic to be held in Frisco, Texas on February 12 – 14, 2016.

Gymnasts achieve 31 Top 5 Placements and 43 Top 10 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s GymnasticsCenter competed in the Kurt Thomas Invitational held at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas, on January 23-24, 2016.  This competition was attended by top gymnasts throughout the state of Texas as well as the Eastern half of the United States, with many Achievers Gymnasts placing at or near the top of the competition.

      Top performances were achieved at Level 10 by Megan Dennis from Lewisville, Level 8 by Carsyn Phillips from Denton, Haley O’Connor from Flower Mound, Nadia Hernandez from Keller, and at Level 6 by Kylie Brown from Lantana and Sydney Kudlac from Pilot Point.  Dennis took home the Gold on Uneven Bars in the Level 10 Sr. B age division.  Phillips won Beam at Level 8 in the Sr. A age Division.  O’Connor took 1st on Vault at Level 8 Sr. B age division.  Hernandez took home the Gold on Beam in Level 8 Sr. B age division.  Brown won Uneven Bars in the Level 6 Sr. B age division.  Kudlac took 1st on Vault in the Level 6 Sr. B Division.  Additionally, the Level 6 Team placed 1st in the Team Competition.

ACHIEVERS GYMNASTICS USAG GIRLS TEAM STARTS SEASON WELL

Gymnasts achieve 47 Top 5 Placements and 78 Top 10 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s GymnasticsCenter competed in the Friends of Achievers Invitational held at Swisher Courts in Lake Dallas, Texas, on January 9-10, 2016.  This competition was attended by top gymnasts throughout the state of Texas with many Achievers Gymnasts placing at or near the top of the competition.

            Top performances were achieved at Level 8 by Carsyn Phillips from Denton, Haley O’Connor from Flower Mound, Nadia Hernandez from Keller, at Level 7 by Emma Wisker from Denton, Peyton Thompson from Keller, Gabrielle Eyeington from Keller, and at Level 6 by Amanda Wisker from Denton, Ava Askew from Denton, and Kylie Brown from Lantana.  Phillips won Vault at Level 8 in the Jr. B Division.  O’Connor took 1st place on Beam, Floor, and All Around in the Level 8 Jr. C age division.  Hernandez took home the Gold on Vault in the Level 8 Jr. C age division.  Emma Wisker took 1st place on Floor Exercise in the Level 7 Jr. B Division.  Peyton Thompson won the Beam Gold in the Level 7 Sr. B age division, and Gabrielle Eyeington took the Gold on Vault in the Level 7 Sr. B Division.  Amanda. Wisker took 1st on Vault and in the Level 6 Jr. B Division.

Ava Askew took home Gold Medals on Bars and Beam in the Level 6 Jr. B age division.  Kylie Brown won the Beam title in the Level 6 Sr. B age division.  Additionally, the Achievers Level 8 Team placed 1st and the Level 6 Team also placed 1st in the team competition and the Achievers Gymnastics Level 7 Team placing 3rd.

            The next competition for the Achievers Gymnastics Team is the Kurt Thomas Invitational to be held at The Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas on January 23 – 24, 2016.

Emily Millet - Level 10 Achievers

ACHIEVERS GYMNASTS COMPETE AT USA GYMNASTICS NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT 

DENTON, TX – Two gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in the 2015 USAG   NIT (National Invitational Tournament) in Des Moines, IA, on May 17, 2015.  Achievers Gymnasts competed very well in this by qualification only competition.

            Outstanding performances were turned in at Level 10 by Emily Milliet from Denton and Megan Dennis from Lewisville.  Dennis placed 6th on Bars in the Level 10 Sr. C Age Division.  Milliet’s top finish was 14th on Bars in the Level 10 Sr. B Division.  Additionally, this competition was attended by most of the NCAA college gymnastics coaches in the United States, looking for future team members.  This was the final competition for Achievers Gymnastics in the 2015 spring competition season.

Megan Dennis, from Lewisville: (Lewisville HS) 6th on Bars, 13th All Around, 15th on Beam, 16th on Floor.

ACHIEVERS GYMNASTICS EXCEL AT SEASON ENDING TAAF CHAMPIONSHIPS 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in the TAAF State Championships held the weekends of May 2-3 & May 9-10, 2015, in Lancaster and Allen respectively, earning more than 50 Top 10 Placements,

20 Top 5 Placements, 12 Top 3 Placements, and 4 Individual Championship titles.  This was the final competition of the season for these gymnasts.  TAAF stands for Texas Amateur

Athletic Federation and is available for competition throughout the State of Texas.

Highlights include; Kandace Needum from Pilot Point winning State Titles on Vault and Bars and 3 Silver Medals, Kindall Drew from Prosper winning the Gold Medal on Beam, Jenna Ball from Krugerville winning a State Title on Beam, Elle Wood from Lantana earning Silver Medals on Vault and Floor, Marla Suarez from Denton winning Bronze on Beam and All Around, and Jillian Beck from Lake Dallas earning Bronze on Beam.

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gymnasts achieve 8 Top 10 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Two gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in The USA Gymnastics Texas Level 7 Region 3 Championships held in Estes Park, Colorado, on May 1/2/3, 2015.  The Achievers gymnasts competed very well in this event showcasing the top gymnasts in the most competitive region in the nation for the sport of gymnastics.  Sydney Brown and Peyton Thompson achieved 8 top 10 placements

Peyton Thompson, from Fort Worth, finished 4th on beam and floor, as well as finishing 10th all-around.  Sydney Brown, from Lantana, finished 5th on bars and floor and 6th all-around.  The USA Gymnastics Level 7 Region 3 Regional Championships is the culminating competition of the season for Level 7 and is comprised of the best Level 7 gymnasts from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.

Amy Winczura TWU Honors Capstone award winner

ACHIEVERS GIRLS TEAM COACH AMY WINCZURA WINS TWU OUTSTANDING HONORS CAPSTONE RESEARCH PAPER AWARD

Places 1st among 50+ entries 

DENTON, TX – Achievers Girls team coach Amy Winczura (former gymnast for Texas Woman’s University) won the Sarah Mcintire award for her outstanding honors Capstone Research paper project at TWU.  The paper presented a study of the effect of female hormone levels on ACL injury recuperation.

The award was given to the best research or creative project from among the 50+ capstones produced by TWU Honors Scholars. 

5 nominees were recognized, and Amy’s was chosen the winner from among them all.

She is the third student athlete in the past ten years to win the award.  She was formally recognized at the TWU Honors banquet and presented a plaque.

Amy stated, "I was taken by surprise when I had discovered I had been nominated for Outstanding Capstone for the 2015 school year and blown away when they announced my name as the

recipient of this award. It's an honor to be recognized for my hard work and dedication to my academics."

Working alongside Amy now and also having coached her at TWU, Frank Kudlac Achievers program director said “Having known Amy for years and watching her develop as an student-athlete

and now a coach, knowing her work ethic in the gym and here at Achievers, it was no surprise to me that she earned this award.  She gives 100% effort in everything she does.” 

Amy will graduate from TWU this May and plans to pursue medical school in the near future.

ACHIEVERS LEVEL 8 GYMNASTS SHINE AT USA GYMNASTICS

REGIONAL COMPETITION

3 Top 10, 14 Top 20 Placements 

DENTON, TX – Gymnasts from Achiever’s Gymnastics Center competed in the USA Gymnastics Region 3 Level 8 Regional Championships held at Metroplex Gymnastics in Allen, TX, on April 25-26, 2015.  Achievers gymnasts performed well as all 4 gymnasts placed at this prestigious competition with the best qualified gymnasts from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Texas.

            Outstanding performances were turned in by Carsyn Phillips, from Denton, Haley O’Connor, from Flower Mound, Katie Dooley, from Denton, and Nadia Hernandez, from Keller.  Phillips placed 6th on beam in the Jr. D Age Division.  O’Connor placed 9th on bars and floor in the Sr. D Age Division, as well as taking 11th in the All Around competition.  Dooley’s top performances were on bars and floor where she placed 13th in the Jr. C Age Division.  Hernandez finished 13th All Around in the Sr. B Age Division.

 This was the culminating competition of the season for the Achievers Level 8 Team.

16th on Vault.

Level 8, Sr. B Age Division:

Nadia Hernandez, from Keller: 13th in the all-around, 14th on vault, 15th on beam,

19th on Bars, 20th on floor.

Level 8, Jr. D Age Division:
