In conjunction with Denton’s 34th annual Arts & Jazz festival, the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) will host a food drive supporting the City of Denton’s third annual Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry effort that seeks to raise awareness of hunger and collect 9,500 pounds of food. Food donations collected from DCTA at the festival will be distributed equally among nonprofits that serve hungry people in Denton and its surrounding communities through Serve Denton, a nonprofit organization that helps other area nonprofits fulfill their mission and advance the common good of Denton County through co-location, collaboration, and communication.
In Denton County, more than 90,000 residents - about 15 percent of the county’s population - deal with hunger, according to the Texas Hunger Initiative. This group faces “food insecurity,” meaning they have a serious risk of going hungry on any given day. Festival attendees can help those in need by donating a canned food item at the DCTA booth - located in the Children’s Area - and receive a free regional day pass to use any day of their choice.

Arts & Jazz Festival
The Denton Arts & Jazz festival is a celebration of the arts in a community known for embracing and nurturing music, dance, choral, drama and the visual arts. The free event will take place April 25-27, 2014 at Denton Quakertown Park, which is conveniently located just two blocks northeast of the Historical Downtown Denton Square and just a short walk or bus ride from the DCTA’s Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC).
Festival Hours: 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 27.
Festival Transportation & Parking Information
To avoid traffic and parking congestion for the highly attended Arts & Jazz Festival, DCTA encourages festival goers to take the A-train and Denton Connect bus service. For those traveling to Denton, passengers can ride the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Green Line and transfer to the A-train at DART’s Trinity Mills station. A-train passengers can transfer to Connect Routes 4 and 5 for easy access to the festival from the Euline Brock Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC).
When using DCTA services to access Denton’s Art’s & Jazz festival, passengers should plan their trip using DCTA’s online trip planner and have an understanding of Connect and A-train weekend service hours. Connect bus service ends around 8:30 p.m. on Friday night and at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The last southbound A-train departure to Carrolton’s DART Trinity Mills Station from Denton is 11:15 p.m. on Friday and 11:53 p.m. on Saturday. There are no DCTA services on Sunday.
