Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton is pleased to announced that Melissa Winans, MBA-HCM, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, has been named chief nursing officer (CNO) after serving as the interim leader since June.
“Melissa is an excellent addition to the leadership team at Texas Health Denton,” said Stan Morton, FACHE, president of the hospital. “She brings a wealth of experience in patient care, and her dedication to patient safety and encouraging a collaborative working environment makes her the perfect choice for our CNO.”
Winans joined Texas Health Denton as director of Women and Infant Services in 2012. Since her arrival, patient satisfaction scores in women’s services have increased from the 16th percentile to the 88th percentile, and she was actively involved with seeking Pathway to Excellence designation, which the hospital achieved in early 2013. Also in early 2013, she added critical care services to her portfolio, taking responsibility for an additional 51 beds at the hospital.
“Nurses are on the front lines of patient care at Texas Health Denton, and I am proud to be leading a team that is so dedicated to quality, compassion and safety,” Winans said. “Being a nurse can be a difficult job, so being a part of an organization like ours that is so supportive of the nursing profession is a huge blessing. I look forward to continuing our tradition of nursing excellence in the Denton community.”
Winans has placed a high importance on continuing her education throughout her career. She earned a practical nursing degree from St. Cloud Technical College, an associate degree in nursing from Excelsior College, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Minnesota State University-Moorhead, a Master of Science in nursing in clinical systems management from Excelsior College, and a Master of Business Administration in health care management from Herzing University. Earlier this year she became a board-certified Nurse Executive Advanced and completed Leadership Denton.
When she’s not busy at the hospital, Winans enjoys watching a good football game and spending time with her husband, three grown children and her toy poodle.
