DENTON, TEXAS, June 6, 2014 – Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton earned an “A” grade for patient safety, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization used publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients, to come up with the letter grades.
Nationally, only about a third of the 2,522 hospitals scored were ranked “A.” Twelve Texas Health Resources hospitals received the top grade, including Texas Health Denton.
“Our A grade reflects the hard work of all of our employees, nurses and the doctors on our medical staff,” Timothy Harris, M.D., chief medical officer at the hospital, said. “Every day we challenge ourselves to provide safe and high quality care for the population of Denton and the surrounding communities, and it is very rewarding to be recognized.”
The Leapfrog Group bases the Hospital Safety Score on national performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
