The Magdalen House Recognized by Dallas Morning News as a Best in DFW Nonprofit

The Magdalen House, a nonprofit organization helping individuals achieve sobriety and sustain recovery from alcoholism at no cost and based on 12-Step spiritual principles, is pleased to announce that they have been recognized by the third annual edition of Best in DFW, a people’s choice awards program from The Dallas Morning News. This recognition honors the people and places that make North Texas special. North Texans were asked to nominate and vote for their favorites. Approximately 3,680 businesses were nominated in 13 main categories and 300 subcategories. More than 130,000 votes were cast.

“We are honored to be recognized by the community as a Best in DFW nonprofit, we are deeply appreciative of our clients, team, partners and supporters who voted and showed their support,” says Lisa Kroencke, CEO of The Magdalen House.

The Magdalen House remains the only agency in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to offer comprehensive recovery services – without insurance or state funding – 100% free of charge. The nonprofit is committed to help individuals achieve long-term, sustainable recovery through the following spiritually based, comprehensive programs.

  • For Women:
    • First Step Program: A two-week, residential program for an alcoholic woman who wants to stop drinking but cannot. The house can accommodate up to 20 women with rolling admissions.
    • Next Step Program: A three-phase, non-residential program that provides support and structure for an alcoholic woman at any stage of recovery.
  • For Women & Men:
    • Community: Solution-focused meetings and workshops open to all alcoholic women and men at every stage of recovery. Services are currently offered for women 365 days a year and the men’s schedule is available online here. Additionally, Family Support meetings are available to the families and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts.
    • Resources and Education: Education about the disease of alcoholism and community partnerships that help connect alcoholic women, men, and their families to resources such as sober living, women’s and men’s health, and counseling.

One in nine adults suffer from alcohol use disorder. Today, there are over 250,000 alcoholic women in D/FW alone and approximately 400,000 men struggling with alcohol in D/FW. If you’re an alcoholic who can’t stop drinking or a concerned loved one of an alcoholic, the first step in recovery is education and access to resources. In North Texas, The Magdalen House provides residential recovery, detox, group meetings, structured programs, family support groups, and tools designed to help grow and sustain recovery.
